No, I was not Swallowed by the Apocalypse

Hello again! Winter solstice was on December 21st, and we are now gaining more light each day. Today we gained fifty-nine seconds; our total length of day today will be 3 hours, 42 minutes. The total light for the day was 6 hours and 33 minutes. It may not sound like much, but soon we will be gaining several minutes.

Issues

Sorry, my few faithful readers that I haven't posted. My last post was to complain about the weather! I've been having problems with Blogspot; I hope to get them fixed soon!

Rain, Rain and More Rain

Ugh. It has just been raining and raining and raining lately. The summer days are running out, and this season has seemed to be rainier then usual.

New goat!

Firefly kidded on June 7th, in the evening. She only had one kid, a buckling with a coup-blanc coloring. He has no name yet, but I think he needs a French name. He is only three days old, and already he is growing up! He is jumping and running around. It is too bad he has no one to play with. Of course, he is so cute! And Firefly is a good mother.

I was nervous for this kidding, after Rose's horrendous kidding last spring. This little guy did have to be pulled out, because Firefly wasn't progressing properly. But we all made it.

I can't believe that Firefly is all grown up with a kid of her own!

Rain

Rose doesn't seem to like the rain much.

The ducks and Lucy like the rain.

The rain is good for sewing. I'm making a small zippered wristlet purse, just large enough to fit cash, cards and a phone. The brown batik is left over from my kuspuk I made last fall.

This spring feels wetter and cooler then last spring. I suppose it is useful for making things green, and keeping forest fires at bay. I just hope that we get some good sunshine so my garden grows!

Spring

I love this time of the year.  After a long winter the sun and warmth and green is welcomed.  The animals are quite content to bask in the sun. I can't though. I still have more planting and spring cleaning to get to.
Nice weather always makes me want to figure out how to take my sewing machine outside!

Happy May Day!

It's 30F and snowing! Must be May.

Last Day of April

Four of the goats sunning themselves on a hill.

The 27 inches of snow we got this winter are melting away. Of course, winter could decide that there are too many bare patches of ground now and decide to make a comeback overnight.
My  cabbage seedlings are coming up. And I planted two flats of broccoli yesterday.

Planting!

I planted one flat of cabbage, and one flat of tomatoes today.

It's hard to believe that such tiny seeds will grow and become large cabbages.

It's not Spring yet, But...

I know it's coming! The days are about twelve hours long, and while the mornings are normally well below zero, the sun warms things up nicely in the afternoon, and the air is softer. The sky is a deep, warm blue that makes it seem as if it should be summer.
Junebug and Firefly were bred last January. I think they settled, because they act like they are starving, and they seem to be getting wider. I haven't seen any utter development yet, but the muscles around the girls' tails seem to be more relaxed.
The coming of spring also means garden planning! Which I have yet to get to, but there is still time.

Leap for Leap Day!

Poor neglected blog. I haven't fed you in a while. But between feeding my goats and ducks and dogs and cats and plants, and my internet addiction, I haven't had time for you. :(

Warmth!

I had to see it to believe it.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words...

The goats like to huddle together for warmth. In the picture is Firefly, Junebug, Ladybug and Butterfly (her face is hidden.)

The sun!!! And sunshine over the barn. Looking forward to having sunshine in the house. Maybe my I'm-apathetic-about-everything-feeling will go away. Of course, the Happy Light and massive amounts of Vitamin D should help t0.

I Haven't Seen the Sun in Weeks

No, I haven't. It doesn't come up far enough to reach were I live.

Trying to avoid the inevitable cabin fever.
